to the St Margaret Mary Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

We are located in Algonquin, Illinois and serve the local communities of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.

What We Do

The Society offers tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis. It is this personalized involvement that makes the work of the Society unique. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society’s work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served.

Friends of the Poor® Walk

Parishioners, families and friends are invited to participate in the 4th annual Walk for the Poor on Saturday, Sept. 24 sponsored by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  This local event is held in West Dundee at St. Catherine of Sienna Church. Last year over 200 walks were held at Catholic churches across the country to raise money to help the needy in various communities and to raise awareness of the challenges faced by the nation’s poor. This year’s 5K event also includes a “run” option for interested participants.

The Friends of the Poor Walk is one of the major fundraisers sponsored by Saint Margaret Mary St. Vincent de Paul. Walkers collect pledge money from family members, friends, and neighbors. All monies raised by Saint Margaret Mary walkers go directly to our St. Vincent de Paul treasury to assist families in need in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.  St. Margaret Mary parish had 45 walkers and raised over $5,200.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with the run/walk starting at 8 a.m.  The run/walk course takes participants around Spring Hill Mall and briefly through the neighborhood surrounding the West Dundee church. All participants are eligible for raffle prizes. 

Walkers/runners can sign up after Masses the weekends of Sept. 10-11 and Sept. 17-18. Registration forms, walker pledge sheets, and donor receipts are also below.
